INTERESTING NOTES: Born and baptized in York (Toronto), Mary was born into a military family as both her father Patrick and relatives on her mother’s side (Hartneys) served in the British military. DNA has confirmed that Patrick Hartney, the longtime barrack master of Fort York, including around the time of the War of 1812, is related, perhaps Mary’s grandfather or otherwise a great-uncle.

Mary died in childbirth during the birth of her 12th child. The child did not survive either.
